About the Artist
William Mulready (1786–1863), born in Ennis, County Clare, trained in London and became one of the best-known genre painters of the Royal Academy. Alongside his finished scenes he made drawings and studies from nature such as this one. This work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland.
