Your grandmother may have never seen her work in Dublin, but you can live with it now.
Abstract by Mainie Jellett
A bold geometric composition in gouache—planes of colour intersecting with purpose and rhythm. Created in the 1930s when Jellett was breaking ground as Ireland's first abstract painter, defying every expectation of what Irish art should be. This is your chance to bring home the work of a woman who refused to fit the mould.
About the Artist
Mainie Jellett (1897–1944) studied in Paris under Cubist masters and returned to Ireland determined to modernise. Her family was shocked. The Church was sceptical. But she painted anyway—abstract works that proved Irish artists could lead, not follow. She died young, her legacy nearly forgotten until recent years when the diaspora and home alike finally caught up with her vision.
