You left Ireland for somewhere that felt like freedom—O'Conor did too, and painted this in Paris, where the light was different and so was he.
Reclining Nude Before a Mirror
A figure rests in warm ochres and burnt sienna, caught between intimacy and solitude, her reflection doubling the moment. Painted in 1909 during O'Conor's years in France, this work shows the influence of Bonnard's sensual palette and his obsession with light. Bring home the work of an Irish artist who found his voice abroad—this is your chance to own a piece of that exile's bold vision.
About the Artist
Roderic O'Conor left Cork for Paris in the 1880s, where he spent decades refining a style rooted in colour and warmth rather than the grey restraint of home. He studied under the shadow of the Impressionists, absorbing their freedom, and developed his own language of thick, expressive brushwork. O'Conor never returned to live in Ireland, but his work—bold, sensual, unafraid—speaks for those who had to leave to become themselves.
